Village People: ceramic artist Charlotte Cadzow

Each month we’ll be introducing one of the Village Green makers. This month it is Charlotte Cadzow who makes all our beautiful pottery pieces.

Where’s your favourite coffee spot?

DRIFT just outside North Berwick and Coast, an amazing unexpected coffee trailer, just outside Bettyhill on the North Coast 500 Trail.

 

Where’s your favourite place to go?

The Sea and Beach anywhere along the coastline, preferably with waves to surf.

 

What was the best holiday you’ve ever been on?

The north of Scotland and all the Scottish Islands, I cannot choose a favourite as I feel like every trip is the best. 

 

How did you start doing what you now do?

I've always loved art and wanted to make things out of any material. 

 

What was the first product you ever made?

A woven basket, a knitted bag and a macrame owl!! Oops that’s 3. That was in P5.

 

Have you always done what you do?

Yes, I've been very lucky to make and sell ceramics and art from my studio since setting up with a Grant from the Prince’s Trust in 1995. I've also taught ceramics classes since when I was a student at art college at Duncan of Jordanstone, so I’ve always taught ceramics in the community, in schools and pottery classes, alongside making my ceramics and art.

 

How did you get to where you are now?

Being open to learn and share.

 

What’s the best thing about your job?

I love the creative process both in my own work and in teaching kids in the school where I teach ceramics part-time, up to A- level.

 

What’s your next project?

Hand made tiles for outdoor hospital buildings in Glasgow, with a creative team, using the patients’ drawings pressed into the surface of the tiles. It's going to look brilliant.

 

What are you most proud of?

My family of course.

 

What was the last book you read?

Surfing Illustrated by John Robison and Permission to Feel by Marc Brackett

Some are: Stranger Things, Queen's Gambit, Big Little Lies, The Undoing, Little Fires Everywhere, Withnail and I …Edward Scissorhands, to name a few …

 

What's your favourite way to spend a day off?

Surfing with friends, Exploring the Great Outdoors…

 

Do you have a signature dish?

Sushi

 

What song gets you on the dance floor?

Jump Around by House of Pain and many more

 

What’s your karaoke song?

Anything rock, and Elvis too, for starters.

 

Do you listen to podcasts?

Yes, music Documentaries Desert Island Discs and Brené Brown with Marc Brackett.

 

Do you have a claim to fame? (that you're willing to share!)

My Ceramics were featured on Celebrity Big Brother.
